Greek Mythology Camp

Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is on the most dangerous quest of his life: a journey across the United States to catch a thief who has stolen the original weapon of mass destruction — Zeus’ Master Bolt. Along the way, he faces a host of mythological enemies determined to stop him, while he comes to terms with a father he has never known, and an Oracle that has warned him of betrayal by a friend. This series follows Percy as he accepts and learns to embrace his dyslexia and ADHD.  Our camp focuses on reading skills: comprehension, vocabulary, foreshadowing, character types, etc.  In addition to enhancing these skills, campers will learn about Greek Mythology, engage in reader’s theater, make crafts, and sample Greek food. We will also have the Greek God Olympics, complete with outdoor activities and challenges. In the book, the main character attends "Camp Half-Blood."  Our campers will participate in a similar experience, and be sorted under a Greek God mythology figure that best suits their personality. The camp will focus on the magic of the series, and encourage students to find a book series they feel a connection with. The camp will be a fun way for students to fall in love with this series and ultimately, reading.
