During this year's Annual Fun Run, the St. Benedict's Episcopal School Board announced Sandra Espino and Edward Colon as the 2023 recipients of the Board of Trustees Award. This annual award acknowledges an individual, family, or community partner who demonstrates a steadfast commitment to the school through their service, support, or financial contributions. Past honorees include Kirsten and PJ Protos (2022), Caryn Lamphier (2019), Stephanie Eaddy (2020), and Scott Offen (2021).
Sandra Espino and Edward Colon are thrilled and deeply honored to receive this recognition among so many individuals who have played a vital role in shaping St. Benedict's into the esteemed institution it is today. Above all, they are delighted to have the privilege of belonging to and contributing to this remarkable community of parents, children, and faculty. Over the past nine years, they have witnessed the school's growth with the addition of field and learning cottages at the lower school, the acquisition of the current middle school building, and the use of the Hive. They aspire to continue enriching the school's values, both in the present and the future. As members of the Imagine Capital Campaign Committee, they are enthusiastic about contributing to the next phase of growth for St. B's!
Edward and Sandra have two children, Nico (7th grade) and Amelia (5th grade), who have been attending St. Benedict's since they were 3 years old. They had the opportunity to chair the Acorn Fund Committee from 2020 to 2021. The Acorn Fund is an annual campaign that operates throughout the school year, bridging the financial gap between tuition and the actual cost of educating each student. When asked about their time as chairs of the Acorn Fund, Edward and Sandra expressed, "During a time of great uncertainty in the world, it was a privilege to collaborate with our incredible group of parents to ensure that St. Benedict's could remain a cornerstone of our community, investing in the well-being of our children and faculty," the Colons stated when reflecting on their time as chairs of the Acorn Fund from 2020 to 2021.
"We have cherished countless wonderful moments with the St. B's community, in addition to the exceptional academic experiences that Nico and Amelia, along with our twin nieces Charlotte and Isabelle, have enjoyed at the school," Edward and Sandra shared. "From the Fun Run and Parents' Galas to May Day and Spirit Weeks, St. Benedict's has brought immense happiness and joy to our immediate and extended family!"
