We are absolutely delighted to announce that St. Benedict's Episcopal School has achieved STEM Certification from Cognia! This prestigious recognition is a testament to our unwavering commitment to providing exceptional education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. It not only elevates our school’s reputation but also reinforces our mission to prepare students for bright futures in STEM fields.
In 2020, through a generous partnership with The Goizueta Foundation, St. Benedict’s was awarded a grant to fully fund an integrated STEAM program. This funding enabled us to equip our classrooms with state-of-the-art technologies and introduce an Interdisciplinary STEAM Specialist. Today, STEAM integration is a cornerstone of education at St. Benedict's, reaching every student from preschool through eighth grade. Additionally, our program extends its benefits to the wider community by offering STEAM-focused summer camps, providing access to resources that might otherwise be out of reach.
This exciting milestone is further amplified by the incredible news of two additional grants—one for an Outdoor Innovation Lab and another for an Endowed Fund for STEAM Innovation.
A heartfelt thank you goes to Mr. Chris Scandrett, our dedicated STEAM Director for preschool through 8th grade, and Katie Axe, our exceptional STEAM Teacher. Their tireless efforts have been crucial in integrating the STEAM program throughout our school in under three years.
"Words cannot fully express the joy and gratitude I feel for the incredible hard work and dedication our teachers have shown in integrating STEAM into their classrooms," Scandrett said. "Their unwavering commitment to fostering curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking in our students has been the driving force behind our success. This STEM Certification from Cognia is a testament to their passion and perseverance, and I am profoundly thankful for their efforts in shaping the bright futures of our students at St. Benedict's."
STEM education at St. Benedict’s Episcopal School ignites students’ curiosity, encourages collaboration, develops resiliency, and allows for creative expression.
