Where Futures Take Shape: Abbie Gould ’18

Abbie Gould ’18 began her journey at St. Benedict’s in kindergarten and graduated in eighth grade, carrying with her the values and relationships that shaped her early years. After St. Benedict’s, she attended Campbell High School and completed the International Baccalaureate Program. Today, Abbie is a senior at Georgia Tech majoring in public policy and will graduate this spring.

When reflecting on what helped her succeed after St. Benedict’s, Abbie points first to the community she found here. “I think the aspect of St. Benedict’s that really helped me thrive the most in the IB program at Campbell High School was the community that I found here,” said Abbie Gould ’18. She shares that St. Benedict’s taught her how to build a support system, develop strong relationships with teachers and peers, and confidently ask for help when she needed it—skills that helped her navigate both the rigor of the IB program and the transition to college.

That same foundation has supported Abbie in her work at Georgia Tech, where strong communication and analytical thinking are essential. Abbie credits her teachers at St. Benedict’s with helping her develop those skills early through active classroom discussion and participation. “From a very early age, it was expected that I was asking my teachers questions, articulating arguments, [and] sharing my thoughts and opinions,” she said.

As she looks ahead to graduation, Abbie is excited about using her public policy degree to create meaningful change. “Upon graduation from Georgia Tech this spring, I am hoping to work in healthcare policy,” said Abbie Gould ’18. She hopes to pursue opportunities in government or the private sector with a focus on improving healthcare access and outcomes through policy.

Abbie also reflects on the lasting relationships she built at St. Benedict’s and the way they continue to show up in her life today. She notes that there are many St. Benedict’s alumni at Georgia Tech, and it’s always meaningful to run into familiar faces and stay connected to the community that helped shape her.
